Frenchman Georges-Kévin N’Koudou must impress Pochetinno during the American pre-season tour, otherwise he should surely be sold.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochetinno will have silverware on his mind going into this season. Spurs seem to be getting a reputation for not getting over the finish line in competitions, a reputation the Argentinian manager will be keen to be rid of.
The North London side are about to embark on a pre-season tour of America, in which they will take on some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The Lilywhites will face the likes of Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan, a perfect stage for some players who need to impress.
One such player is 23-year-old winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou. The Frenchman spent last season on loan at high-flying Burnley, where he failed to score or do anything much of note in his eight Premier League appearances for the Lancashire side.
When he joined Spurs from Ligue 1 Marseille for £11m, it is fair to say much more was expected of N’Koudou. He had looked a bright talent for both Marseille and the French youth set ups, and Tottenham hoped they were getting a winger with real potential for their outlay, but it just has not seemed to work out for N’Koudou so far in England.
This pre-season tour might be a last chance saloon for N’Koudou to impress Pochetinno and show him what he can do. If not, a sale of the winger must surely be on the cards. Whether the club could recoup what they spent on the player is a major doubt, he is currently valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt
. If he doesn’t impress in this pre-season, a move back to native France would likely be an option for N’Koudou.
Pochetinno will be keeping a keen eye on his young winger. If he has a poor pre-season, Spurs fans will not be sad to see the man go.
