Tottenham fans will be concerned with Christian Eriksen yet to put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the Lilywhites.

The Danish international has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino for a number of years, blossoming into one of the best playmakers in the Premier League. His current deal is set to expire in 18 months and has stalled on the offer of fresh terms. According to reports from AS in Spain, Eriksen is unlikely to commit his future to the club and will instead chase a move to Real Madrid alongside former team-mate Gareth Bale.

Losing Eriksen’s creative influence would be a massive blow to the club and their hopes of winning the Premier League title. However, Spurs would be able to demand a massive fee for the midfielder meaning there will be plenty of funds available to find his replacement.

One man Spurs could target is Borussia Monchengladbach maestro – Thorgan Hazard. Valued at £34.2m by Transfermarkt, the Belgium international moved to England in 2012 with his brother Eden also joining Chelsea. However, after various unsuccessful loan spells, Hazard was eventually sold permanently to Monchengladbach in 2015 and the playmaker now enjoys a crucial first-team role.

The 25-year-old has been in fantastic form this season which should make the Tottenham scouts sit up and take notice. Hazard has found the back of the net nine times already in the Bundesliga as well as registering six assists – making him the ideal replacement for Eriksen. Hazard possesses excellent technical ability, silky dribbling skills and the vision to carve open defences. Now adding goals to his game, the Belgian would thrive under Pochettino’s tutelage in north London.

Eriksen’s departure would be tough to stomach, however, Tottenham fans could find their new hero in the ex-Chelsea star.
