Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 encounter in Turin on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with last year’s beaten finalists off the back of beating North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley in their preceding Premier League game, a result which moved them seven points clear of the Gunners in the table. Yet they didn’t make the best of starts in Turin on Tuesday as a Gonzalo Higuain brace gave the hosts a 2-0 lead after only nine minutes, before goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen deservedly secured a draw for Spurs, thus making them favourites for progression when the two teams meet in London in three weeks’ time.
Subsequently, there have been many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are daring to dream about what their team could go on to achieve this season, be it in Europe or in domestic competition.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from reported target Malcom that he will leave current side Bordeaux in the summer transfer window.
And such revelations must be of interest to Pochettino and the Tottenham hierarchy, who now must make a move for the 20-year-old ahead of North London rivals Arsenal, who are also reported to be interested.
Ultimately, the Brazil youth international has enjoyed a wonderful season in the French top-flight with eight goals and six assists in just 24 league appearances, helping the club to seventh place in the Ligue 1 table.
And given he managed nine goals in all competitions last term, the young forward has clearly got to grips with what the French league has to offer, and seemingly looks destined for big things given how quickly he has adapted since moving from Corinthians back in January 2016.
And, at the tender age of 20, there may be no better coach to get the best out of him and help fulfil his potential than Spurs boss Pochettino, whose track record at both Southampton and now Tottenham is exemplary and must be of interest to many young players around the world.
The likes of Kane, Dele Alli, and Eric Dier have all been given chances to shine in this Spurs team in recent years – all of them are now regulars in Pochettino’s side, and are doing so well that many of England’s future hopes rest on the trio.
Add in Luke Shaw at Southampton and Harry Winks more recently at Spurs, and the Argentine isn’t afraid to give young players the platform from which to perform – it appears to be a very desirable place for starlets.
Impressively though, Malcom is already on his way to becoming an outstanding winger.
The 20-year-old has mixed pace and trickery with an end product during his time in Bordeaux, and certainly isn’t afraid to take defenders on in his right-wing position – he’d give Pochettino another excellent attacking option, and very much keep the pressure on the likes of Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela, and indeed new signing Lucas Moura.
Clearly, Malcom has got everything to go to the very top of the game, and where better for him to nurture that talent than under Pochettino, who is renowned for taking young players to the next level.
Thus, his recent revelations that he will leave Bordeaux have to be acknowledged by Spurs, who simply must now act and bring the £27 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) to North London this summer.
