Tottenham Hotspur’s performance last night in the Champions League seriously delighted the supporters glued to the TV here in the Transfer Tavern. Indeed, with Spurs holding Real Madrid to a draw in their own backyard last night, there’s a real feeling in here that they are closing the gap on Europe’s elite.
And that’s not just a view from the Spurs-supporting punters who frequent their droves. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are being widely lauded for their performance in the Spanish capital last night and even a La Liga expert has praised the Premier League side.
Guillem Balague took to Twitter to react to Tottenham’s draw and labelled their showing as ‘superb’. Still, not getting too carried away, the Sky Sports pundit also explained what Real’s visitors did wrong in the Bernabeu last night.
Top superb performance by Spurs. Apart from 5 minutes at end of each half when they defended too deep, they got out of game what they wanted

Balague believes Spurs defended ‘too deep’ for the last 5 minutes in both halves, with Cristiano Ronaldo converting a penalty just before the interval after Toni Kroos broke into the Spurs penalty box. However, that’s not to take away from a ‘top’ Tottenham performance, says Balague.
It’s amazing just how far Pochettino has brought this Tottenham side since taking over. They’re now a match for Real Madrid, who’ve just won two Champions League titles on the spin and, while there certainly is room for improvement, the sky is the limit for the Argentine and his men.
