Tottenham Hotspur announced a new signing over the weekend after Aaron Skinner celebrated his birthday by signing his first professional contract with the club.

Football Insider revealed that Skinner, who turned 18 on Sunday, has signed a new deal with Tottenham, seven months after joining the club from Bolton Wanderers. The Englishman started his career at Bury FC before moving to the County Ground in October 2019.

Although he has not disclosed the length of the agreement, Football Insider reported that it is set to expire in 2023, in line with guidelines for Premier League youngsters.

Despite the fact he only initially joined the Lilywhites on a trial basis six months ago, the teenager has clearly impressed the club's hierarchy, as he caught the attention of backroom staff during Bury's remarkable run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals back in 2018.

Indeed, his performances haven't stopped there, as he has made nine appearances in the Under-18 Premier League this season, supplying one assist (via Transfermarkt). The centre-back can also take up a position in midfield and his versatility could be vital in the years to come.

Skinner will no doubt be looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of first team stars Harry Kane and Harry Winks, as well as recent academy graduates Oliver Skipp, Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga.

Fans will have to wait and see if he can become the next great defender to come out of the north London club's academy but the fact that Spurs have handed him a contract suggests that he is one to keep an eye on in the future.
