Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Tuesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the Serie A champions off the back of beating North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, in turn extending their unbeaten league run to nine matches. Yet things got off to a horrible start in Turin on Tuesday as two Gonzalo Higuain goals gave the hosts a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes, yet Spurs hit back through Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen to deservedly pick up a draw from the encounter, and thus leave the Premier League side favourites to progress ahead of the return leg at the national stadium in three weeks’ time.
Thus, there have been many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from Don Balon, which suggests that European champions Real Madrid are lining up an intriguing swap deap to lure Spurs striker Kane to the Bernabeu in the summer.
The England international netted his 33rd goal of the campaign in their draw with Juventus on Tuesday night to move to within two goals of his tally from the entirety of last season, and thus on course for his best-ever goal-scoring return.
And with 132 goals in just 199 games for the North London outfit, the 24-year-old is continuing to attract attention from some of the biggest clubs in European football, with recent reports suggesting that Real Madrid are considering using Marco Asensio as part of a deal to bring Kane to the Spanish capital.
And were Tottenham to go another season without winning a trophy, and indeed miss out on a place in next term’s Champions League, they could find it very difficult indeed retaining the striker beyond the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: There aren’t many words left to describe Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who scored his 33rd goal of the season in their 2-2 draw with Juventus in Turin in Tuesday night.
European champions Real Madrid continue to be linked with the 24-year-old, and recent reports suggest that their interest is intensifying as they are considering using Marco Asensio as part of a swap deal to lure Kane away from North London.
Ultimately, Kane is absolutely integral to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but questions surrounding his future may gain further weight in the summer were Spurs to miss out on the top four, and fail to win a trophy.
Clearly, this summer looks like being a significant one in determining exactly where this Tottenham team is heading.
