CCMA claim that the 20-year-old La Masia prospect was subject of interest from Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino in the previous transfer window, however, the report states that Puig turned down a move to north London due to the style of the Premier League.

The news from CCMA comes a day after Sport revealed that Puig was open to a move away from Barcelona in search of regular first-team football in a top division, with the defensive midfielder saying: “I’d like to have more minutes (up a level) and if I see I won’t get them I’ll have to make a decision. In theory, I didn’t plan to leave on loan in the winter window, but we’ll see.”

Despite winning praise from the likes of Gennaro Gattuso and being dubbed ‘a small madman’ by Marca, Puig is a player who has found it hard to break into the stacked Barcelona midfield.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, the anchorman has only managed three first-team appearances for Barcelona with Puig yet to appear for the senior squad this season, resorting to playing for the club’s B side instead this year.

Although Ernesto Valverde recently revealed that Puig will play for the Barcelona first-team someday (per the Evening Standard), it appears that the 20-year-old midfielder could do with a move of some type away from Catalonia in order to get regular football in a top division, yet Tottenham certainly isn’t the answer.

Just like with Barcelona, Puig would be facing a mountain to climb if he was to reconsider a move to Spurs in January following the revelation that the Premier League side were keen on the youngster this summer.

With Pochettino spending a club-record fee for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer (per BBC Sport) as well as already having the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier and now Oliver Skipp in the first-team for the defensive midfield role, Puig would seemingly find it hard to waltz into the Tottenham senior squad and warrant first-team football.

Tottenham fans, would Puig want to join Pochettino following their attempts in the summer? Let us know!
