Speaking on The Athletic's The View From The Lane podcast (18/02/2020), journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke praised Tottenham defender Ben Davies, claiming that he is a vital cog in Spurs' team.

The 26-year-old made his return in Tottenham's 3-2 win against Aston Villa following a serious ankle injury, and he made quite the impression as Pitt-Brooke lauded him for his display and overall value.

"Someone else who impressed [on Sunday] was Ben Davies," The Athletic journalist said. "First game back after three months out, in which he's kind of become this like strangely influential, important figure while he was working on his damaged ankle ligaments."

Defensively, it was a complete performance from Davies. He made six tackles -- the most on the pitch -- and won six aerial duels, which was also the most for that department (via WhoScored).

Thanks to that level of defensive output, the Wales international finished the game with an 8.1 match rating (also WhoScored), the joint second-highest score after Son Heung-min (8.4). If he can maintain that standard of performance, he may very well become a player indispensable to Jose Mourinho, especially with Danny Rose out of the picture.
