Mauricio Pochettino insists that Tottenham will not be spending during the January transfer window.

The Argentine made history in the summer by not signing a single player but managed to hold on to all their key players. Despite their lack of spending, Tottenham have made a fantastic start to the season and secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Spurs are just six points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race heading into the New Year.

Despite Pochettino’s claims, the Lilywhites would be wise to bolster their ranks during the upcoming window. The future of Mousa Dembele remains uncertain while Eric Dier is also set for a spell on the sidelines after his appendix was removed. Adding more midfield cover would be a wise move from the north London club.

One man who could prove to be a wonderful addition is Paris St Germain maestro – Adrien Rabiot. Valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, the France international enjoyed a crucial role under Unai Emery last season, making 33 appearances in Ligue 1. Rabiot remains an important player for Thomas Tuchel who loves to use the Frenchman in the number six role. However, the 23-year-old has less than one year remaining on his contract and is yet to commit his future to the French champions, fuelling speculation that the Parisians could cash in on the midfielder in January.

The youngster has matured into an excellent defensive midfielder and would be the perfect long-term replacement for Dembele. Rabiot loves to get stuck in, averaging an impressive 2.5 tackles per game this season. The five-time French champion also reads the game expertly and offers another layer of protection to the defence (WhoScored).

If Spurs could win the race for his signature in the New Year, it would be a masterstroke.
