Ex-Tottenham player Chris Waddle has criticised Jose Mourinho for not playing Troy Parrott in Spurs' 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Champions League last night.

With Harry Kane out injured, the Portuguese coach set up his team without a recognised No.9. But with the north London club going on to lose the game, Waddle believes it is a decision that backfired.

Speaking on Football Daily (20/02/2020), Waddle said: "You got a young boy called Parrott. Stick him in [on] the night, it's a centre-forward, he's a No.9, he plays, he runs in behind, he comes to feet." He later added: "You've got to play a centre-forward if you've got one in the squad."

It is an interesting debate but, as far as the result itself goes, Tottenham cannot have too many complaints. They were beaten by a much better outfit on the night and were made to look like the away side.

With 56.4%, Julian Nagelsmann's men saw more ball possession. They also threatened more than their opponents, taking 16 shots to Spurs' 12 -- forward Patrik Schick and goalscorer Timo Werner registered nine between themselves (via WhoScored).

Would the inclusion of Parrott, one player, have swung all of the above in Tottenham's favour? Probably not.
