While the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see Mauricio Pochettino strengthen his squad this summer, many of them don’t know exactly where to plunder the funds.
Few would doubt that Spurs’ first-team is up there with the very best in the Premier League, so spending big money on players to merely supplement their squad is a rather tricky thing to pull off well. Without spending big money, you won’t get top players, though what would be the point in splashing out if they are just to back-up the current first-teamers?
Indeed, that question is exactly why reports emanating out of Italy have been met with such interest amongst our local Lillywhites this evening. According to TMW, Spurs are tracking Inter Milan midfielder Antonio Candreva.
The Italian international has recently been touted as a target for capital counterparts Chelsea, though Tottenham are another party credited with an interest. Able to operate up and down the right flank, the 30-year-old would be a useful addition to Spurs’ cause, though the report does claim the Blues are lining up a €27.5m bid.
Having seen Chelsea gazump them when it comes to transfers in recent years, our Tottenham-mad punters hope they can snatch the Azzurri star away.
