Tottenham supporters have been reasonably happy in recent times after seeing their side edge through into the next round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their third round clash with Watford at the stadium:mk off the back of beating Brighton 2-1 in the Premier League at the weekend, thus bringing to an end their three-match losing streak in all competitions. And Spurs took a step closer to winning their first trophy since 2008 by beating Javi Gracia’s Hornets on penalties on Wednesday night having drawn 2-2 after 90 minutes, with goals from Dele Alli and Erik Lamela cancelling out strikes for the visitors from Christian Kabasele and Etienne Capoue.

As such, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been taking to Twitter to heap praise on winger Lamela, with many hoping to see even more of the Argentine in the coming weeks.

And such has been his form when called upon by manager Pochettino in recent weeks, there’s no doubt that the £18 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) should become a Spurs regular in the near future.

Ultimately, it has been a testing time for Lamela recently given he only returned to action at the rear end of last year following 12 months out with a hip problem, in which time the likes of Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-min have somewhat nailed down the attacking roles in Pochettino’s team.

And with the 26-year-old failing to make a big impact in the second half of last season, netting his first goals of the campaign in their final game of the season, he went into this one behind the aforementioned trio and indeed Lucas Moura in the pecking order.

Yet when he has been called upon by Pochettino in the last few weeks, the Argentina international has delivered, bagging off the bench against both Liverpool and Brighton in the Premier League, as well as netting on Wednesday in victory over Watford.

But it has been his overall impact which appears to have delighted Spurs fans, with Lamela providing a much-needed spark in his substitute’s cameos against both Liverpool and indeed Brighton, before producing the goods again in another impressive display at the stadium:mk on Wednesday - he appears to be inching ever closer to his best form.

However, he has somewhat surprisingly failed to start a Premier League game for the North Londoners so far this season, but such have been his efforts recently, those Tottenham fans calling for him to feature more regularly are absolutely spot on, as there’s no doubt that his current form should be enough to earn him a regular starting berth in the coming weeks.
