Tottenham supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side comfortably beat Watford 2-0 on Monday night to move a step closer to a third successive Premier League top four finish.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the Hertfordshire-based outfit having seen fifth place Chelsea pick up three points at Swansea City a couple of days earlier, thus moving to within two points of Spurs ahead of their clash on Monday. Yet the North Londoners reacted admirably as goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane sealed a routine success for Pochettino’s side, in turn re-establishing their five-point lead over the Blues in the race for Champions League football.
Subsequently, there have been many buoyant Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can get the job done in the final three games of the season, and thus bring Champions League football to the club for a third consecutive campaign.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to discuss, not least recent reports linking midfielder Christian Eriksen with a move away this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
And were the 26-year-old to indeed leave Spurs during the close season, Tottenham fans may finally get to see the best of £25.2 million-rated January signing Lucas Moura (as per Transfermarkt).
Ultimately, the 25-year-old has struggled to command regular football under Pochettino since making the move from PSG during the winter, with just nine appearances of which only four have been starts to show for his endeavours in the last few months.
And with three of those four starts coming in their run to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, it’s clear that the Brazil international isn’t quite in Pochettino’s first team plans, although Eriksen’s possible departure this summer could thrust him to the forefront of the Argentine’s thoughts.
And that’s because, when Lucas has indeed taken to the pitch, he has looked threatening and certainly showcased some ability to excite our resident Tottenham fans.
The 25-year-old is full of running and willing to directly take defenders on, and while he hasn’t necessary got the control and eye for a pass that Eriksen has, he makes up for that with a desire to get wide and get balls in the box – ultimately, he’ll create chances.
Yet he hasn’t quite got into stride at Tottenham so far such have been the efforts of Eriksen, Alli, and Son Heung-min in that trio just behind Kane, but Eriksen’s exit would without doubt open up an opportunity.
And based on the snippets seen so far, our resident Spurs supporters might well see the best of the Brazilian ace if Eriksen leaves the club this summer.
