Some Spanish media outlets have claimed that Marseille were holding negotiations with Lopez’s representatives over a new contract, but these talks have now stalled and the Olympians are looking to sell the youngster in the summer due to the club’s financial problems.
The French club value the starlet at €10m, which is roughly £8.9m, and they are willing to negotiate a lower price if the right offer arrives. Mourinho rates the midfielder highly and is urging the board to reach out to the Phocaeans.
Lopez was previously praised by Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who described him as an “outstanding natural talent”, but it is fair to say his form has slumped ever since.
Indeed, the 22-year-old has failed to score in 23 games in Ligue 1 for Andre Villas-Boas’ side this season, creating just three assists, attempting a mere 0.4 shots per game, providing less than one key pass per match and registering only 0.3 interceptions on average (per WhoScored).
Although the Frenchman will no doubt be short of suitors if he does intend to leave the Stade Velodrome, given his performances in the past, it is unlikely that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to dip into his pockets for a player who is struggling for consistency.
Naturally, many Lilywhites reacted to the latest transfer update on social media, with one fan bizarrely calling him a “classy player” and another suggesting that he would be “an upgrade on Winks”.

An upgrade on winks but that’s not saying much

We’ll need someone who can spray the ball about from deep if we see a Tanganga and Sanchez partnership at CB. Not sure this lad is the one though

Looks like a decent little player, maybe too little for the Premier League though. Need a wrecking ball in the middle!

I like the look of him, tidy on the ball but can play a forward pass.

He’s very lightweight & too flaky for the prem imo. Classy player but we have better already at the club
