Erik Lamela enjoyed a good pre-season in which he scored twice and did manage to take at least some of that into the first Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa, during which he was handed a respectable 6/10 by the Independent.

Indeed, perhaps his major contribution to the match saw Lamela pickpocket Jack Grealish on the edge of the Aston Villa box before his pass deflected into the path of Harry Kane, who bagged Spurs’ second of the game and saw them take the lead for the first time in the game.
Just after that, however, the former Roma man was booked under the new Premier League ruling which cautions players for not leaving the pitch at the nearest point when being substituted.
The 27-year-old had a good game to start his 2019/20 season, completing two dribbles, making two key passes and putting in three tackles as his side battled to a 3-1 win with stats by WhoScored.

Lamela putting Grealish on the deck like that makes me actually like him a bit now
