Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to a rather startling transfer revelation, as ESPN report that Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign both Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnadum before they went to Liverpool.

According to ESPN, Tottenham quite simply “have a problem” when it comes to transfers, which is that their wage structure only allows them to target young players with room to develop or older players with lower ceilings. The report appears to suggest this may have impacted the decision not to sign Mane and Wijnaldum, as it details that Mane is now on £130,000 a week, “way more than Spurs’ top earners”.

Of course, with Spurs currently missing Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and January signing Steven Bergwijn due to injury, they could certainly do with some reinforcements up front. Who knows how differently the last few years may have panned out if Pochettino got his hands on Mane in particular – the Senegalese star has 77 goals and 34 assists in 161 Liverpool appearances and a remarkable transfer value of £135m, via Transfermarkt.
