Taking part in a fan Q&A on football.london, the journalist revealed that Spurs stars Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth and Cameron Carter-Vickers could all be heading out the door.
When asked if he thinks the Lilywhites will be restricted to free transfers in the summer, Gold answered: “There will be some money available but pretty much driven through sales.”
He added: “Spurs do have people likely to move on, with Rose, Walker-Peters, Foyth and Carter-Vickers all potential departures and the climate could cause Spurs to look at other offers”. He also said that “it depends who they move on in terms of how many come in.”
Earlier this year, the Northern Echo reported that Mourinho has indicated that Rose will not be a part of his plans for the future, and it seems his time in North London is finally coming to an end. The Englishman played in just five games for Mourinho before leaving Spurs for Newcastle on a short-term loan until the end of the season.
Also, Foyth has fallen out of favour with the Portuguese and he has been offered to a number of clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona. Kyle Walker-Peters is set to stay on loan at Southampton until the end of the season after the 23-year-old took aim at Mourinho in an interview.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Tottenham head coach is well aware that he will have to operate in a difficult transfer window with limited funds, and he could offload these players to increase cash to spend on a squad overhaul. However, it is unlikely that this will go down well with some of the fan base, as Daniel Levy has previously been accused of penny-pinching in the past.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of the Spurs faithful reacted to Gold’s update on social media, with one fan tweeting “this is embarrassing” in reference to Levy’s lack of spending.
Have a read through the mixed reactions to what Gold had to say:
Use KWP for Højbjerg! Keep Foyth and actually use him at CB rather than waste money on another one!
