Tottenham: Fans react to news Jan Vertonghen will not extend his contract

Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to an update on the future of Jan Vertonghen, as the Belgium international is expected to leave the club this summer.
According to The Daily Mail, Vertonghen, whose contract expires this summer, will not pen a new deal with the club and will instead depart when this season ends. Of course, no one quite knows when this campaign will end as things stand, and the contract issues surrounding the league’s postponement could be huge, but it appears one thing is for sure – Super Jan will not be a Tottenham player come the start of next season.
The £16.2m-rated (Transfermarkt) 32 year-old has been an excellent servant to the club, but there is no question his performances have dropped off significantly this term. Fans were infuriated by his wasteful display at Burnley a couple of weeks ago, while his average Whoscored rating in top-flight action is the lowest it has been in any season since moving to north London.
Check out some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where some fans were loving the update while others said it is ‘sad news’…
That’s possibly the best back 4 I’ve seen at Spurs.
Jan has been a phenomenal player for us.

Love the guy but unfortunately he’s dusted, his legs are gone and have been for a while.

It shows we aren’t useless side anymore. He’s been average for two years now. Great as a leader but not in top 15
