Manchester City and PSG are also said to be looking at the Portuguese international as Sporting Lisbon seek to find the best price for their man.
Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are set to bid £49m for the 24-year-old despite the fact that the Primeira Liga side are holding out for a fee of £70m.
This could leave the door open for the likes of Spurs as they seek to bolster their midfield which has already seen the addition of Tanguy Ndombele this summer.
With that being said, Sport Witness add that the rumours around Fernandes joining Tottenham or Man City are merely a tactical ploy to try and encourage United to get the deal done.
The former Sampdoria and Udinese man had an unbelievable season for Lisbon last year, netting 32 goals and providing 18 assists in 53 appearances.
However, 42 of the Portuguese international’s games for Lisbon in the 2018/19 campaign were played in an attacking midfield role (as per Transfermarkt) – a role which Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli can both play and have proven themselves in with impressive goals and assists ratios for the north London outfit.
Lo Celso is a more versatile midfielder who has played over a dozen games in all three of defensive, central and attacking midfield.
Now, despite the purchase of Ndombele, they may still need another versatile midfielder given how woefully short Mauricio Pochettino was last season.
