After a rather frustrating summer for the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern, their opening day win over Newcastle United has allayed fears over an implosion at the club.
Indeed, having not signed anyone over the course of the summer, our north London locals have cut pretty annoyed figures while propping up our bar. Still, Mauricio Pochettino’s side proved just how good they were at St. James’ Park.
So, it’s fair to say the optimism has returned for our local Lillywhites. In fact, reports from the Daily Mirror have only increased such feelings.
They claim the club are hopeful of tying up a deal for Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez this week. Spurs are understood to be hopeful of paying an initial £27m fee for the 21-year-old, in a deal that could potentially rise to £40m.
A hugely exciting talent, the Colombian is believed to have made it clear he’s keen on a move to Hotspur Way, much to the delight of the punters propping up our bar.
Whether or not Tottenham need another central defender remains to be seen. It’s probably one of few areas in their squad that’s well-stocked, though Sanchez is certainly a top talent.
Gives Pochettino far more options.
