Oh how the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoy playing Stoke City. Over the past three meetings, the north London side have smashed 12 goals past the Potters, not conceding once.
Yesterday’s 4-0 win was a cause of huge celebration for the Spurs fans in the bar, though it came at a cost it seems. Unfortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, BOTH Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld exited proceedings early, leaving a gaping hole in their backline.
The Belgian duo have been the rock upon which the Argentine has built upon over the course of the campaign, so the sight of both of them falling to injuries clearly caused concern amongst our punters. Still, reports from ESPN have allayed fears somewhat.
Pochettino has suggested the club don’t overly fear a long-term ailment for either defender and their substitution came more as a precaution than anything. With the battle for the top four still very much on, this could be a huge boost in their attempts to qualify for the Champions League.
“We hope it is not a big issue. Both asked to leave the pitch for caution rather than problems”, said Pochettino.
“We hope in a few days they can start again to work with the group and we play next Sunday and I hope we have enough time to recover them.”
