Tottenham Hotspur fans were left baffled by Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to bring on Victor Wanyama during the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.
It seems the north London faithful were far from happy with the Kenyan international after he gave the ball away just moments after coming on, an error which saw the Foxes equalise (via Football.London).
The 28-year-old has been long linked with a move away from the club and was one of the 12 players Spurs were willing to listen to offers for in the summer transfer window (via Evening Standard).
Mauricio Pochettino was embroiled in controversy surrounding Wanyama, when he said Spurs are not a ‘charity’, when asked to comment on the defensive midfielder’s role by the Daily Mail.
The Argentine manager moved to clarify his comments after the defeat to Leicester City, saying they were not aimed at the midfielder (quotes sourced via HITC).
It seems the Spurs fans are feeling confused about the decision to bring the midfielder on as they took to Twitter to show their reactions.
Here is a selection of tweets from the Tottenham fans:
Why is Wanyama who we agreed to sell only for him to ruin the deal with his greed getting minutes over Dier and Skipp?

Exactly. Stupid decision any way you look at it.

Bringing on Wanyama at 0-1 is comedic. What the hell is all that about? Bring on Lucas & try to kill the game off instead of bringing another defensive player on. What a joke of a second half.

Wanyama was on his way out, hasnt played a minute for the team, then Poch decides to bring him on with 30 mins left in a crucial away game. Nice one

People are asking why Wanyama came on…
I’m asking why Wanyama is still even at my club

Wanyama shouldn’t even be in the squad let alone on the pitch. How can you possibly bring him on before Dier and Skipp

Bringing on Wanyama 1-0 up with Skipp and Dier on the bench. https://t.co/vtQIiVjmwL
