Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton believes that Jarrod Bowen would be an excellent signing for the club.
According to the Northern Echo, Spurs are preparing to make a bid for the Hull City forward after scouts persuaded Jose Mourinho to try and sign him.
The 22-year-old’s contract at the KCOM Stadium is set to expire in the summer (Transfermarkt), so it is likely that the Tigers will try to sell him in January in order to avoid losing him for free at the end of the campaign.
And it seems that Hutton believes that Bowen would fit right in at Tottenham, insisting that he is the type of player who is suited to the north London club.
When discussing whether Bowen would be a good addition for Spurs, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he is an excellent player, played against him a number of times.
“I think Tottenham were interested in him before, to be honest, and he was brilliant last season as well.
“So this isn’t just a flash in pan, played against him for multiple seasons and he was a very tough opponent.
“It doesn’t surprise me that they’re interested, I think he’ll be a good addition to the Tottenham team as he’s young, hungry, scoring goals and I think he fits into the mould of a Tottenham player.
“As he can play in a front three so I think it will be a really good signing for them.”
On paper it certainly looks as though Bowen would be an outstanding signing for Spurs if they can pull it off.
Indeed he has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists in just 22 appearances (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham have become well known for taking younger players, giving them an opportunity in the first team and improving them in recent years.
Indeed the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Harry Winks are all examples of youngsters who have become regulars at the north London club, so Bowen will likely look at that and see them as a good fit in terms of his future development.
He should be affordable too, with his contract set to expire it means that Hull City can’t demand as high a fee as they would like.
