The Athletic's Charlie Eccelshare talked about Tottenham Hotspur's defeat to Chelsea and touched upon the possibility of their top players leaving the club in the near future.

Spurs are currently not in the best of places despite having Jose Mourinho at the helm for a while now. While they have returned to the top six under his watch, they trail RB Leipzig in their Champions League last 16 tie and have lost to rivals Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to qualify for the competition next season.

Indeed, whether or not they play in the Champions League in 2020/12 is currently uncertain but, in response to a fan's enquiry about the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli leaving the club if they miss out on Champions Leauge football, Eccelshare said on the View from the Lane podcast (25/2/2020): "There are also long contracts and leaving is always extremely hard but, for those guys, leaving would be very hard."

It seems that the journalist is pretty sure that neither of the aforementioned players are going to leave the club any time soon, regardless of whether or not they can secure top European football for next season. After all, Kane still has four years to run on his deal and has previously spoken about how happy he is at the club, while Alli has four years on his own contract. With that in mind, prising either of those away from the club looks a daunting prospect for other clubs, especially with Daniel Levy involved.

Spurs fans, do you think that the likes of Kane and Alli are going to stick around even without Champions League football? Would you want them both to stay? Let us know in the comments below!
