Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Eduardo Camavinga who has been previously labelled as the new Casemiro according to Marca (via Daily Mail) and is already playing regularly for French club Rennes at just 17 years of age (Sport via Sport Witness).
Camavinga has played 25 times in Ligue 1 this season and has averaged a relatively impressive 7.03 rating according to Sofascore. This is due to the fact that the youngster has scored fairly high in a lot of key areas for a defensive midfield player.
He averages 8.6 total duel wins, including 7.4 ground duels and 1.3 aerial duels, and wins 4.3 tackles and 1.4 interceptions on average per league game. Indeed, his stat for tackles is the highest in the entire Rennes team and he is also the most fouled player, with 2.4 fouls on him per league match (via WhoScored).
With his 6 foot frame, the Frenchman is perhaps more difficult to knock off the ball than others and this type of skill and boasting relatively high stats in key areas, he could be exactly what Tottenham need with the physicality of the Premier League.
After all, Camavinga has been dubbed as the new Casemiro and the comparisons are very similar. The Brazilian is 6 foot and one inch tall and also averages 8.6 total duel wins in his respective domestic league this season. He also makes 3.3 tackles and 2.1 interceptions, according to Sofascore.
If Spurs can get anything like the player Casemiro is out of Camavinga, they could certainly beef up their midfield.
The likes of Eric Dier and Tanguy Ndombele have seen some of their performances criticised this season while fellow defensive midfielder, Victor Waynama, left the club last month. With that in mind, the midfield could do with some fresh investment, and moving for a young man recording such promising numbers so early into his career could prove to be a worthwhile long-term investment.
Did Daniel Levy make a mistake in appointing Jose Mourinho?
