Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing left-sided player Marc Cucurella in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Cadena Cope via Sport Witness.
They are not the only club keen on the 21-year-old, though, and could face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla for his signature.
Cucurella is currently playing for Getafe in La Liga, where he is on loan from Barcelona. The former are planning to make this move permanent but, according to the report, would need to pay €16 million for 60% of his rights.
If that did happen, he would then have a €25 million (£20.9 million) release clause and it is reported that Spurs, as well as the other four clubs mentioned, would be willing to pay that to get him. This isn’t the first time that Spurs have been linked with the 21-year-old, with Mundo Deportivo suggesting that they tried to sign him back in 2017 (via Sport Witness).
Cucurella ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham and could be an astute signing if they were able to get him to north London. For a start, he has been outstanding for Getafe in La Liga this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists. Added to that, he also averages 1.4 key passes per game whilst also showing strong defensive abilities, winning 4.4 ground duels and 2.1 tackles per match (SofaScore).
With Danny Rose’s time at the club seemingly at an end following a loan move to Newcastle, they could do with a replacement for him to compete with Ben Davies and the young Spaniard could be that man given his stats.
He is also a versatile operator who has played as a left-back and left midfielder this season (Transfermarkt), a trait which certainly should be useful for Jose Mourinho.
