Former England full-back Danny Mills believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose would love a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Newcastle United until the end of the season, but according to a report from The Sun, the Ligue 1 outfit are set to scout Rose’s performances for the Toon ahead of a possible summer transfer.
It is possible that they will allow Layvin Kurzawa to leave at the end of the campaign, which could leave them needing a left-back and it is thought that the England international would be high on their list of targets. Mills thinks that Rose would jump at the chance of moving to the French giants, insisting that everything about the potential move would appeal to the defender.
Speaking about Rose potentially moving to PSG, Mills told Football Insider: “Champions League football, money, living in Paris – yeah, there are worse places to go, especially at that stage of his career.
“What he needs to do is just start playing well for Newcastle, get games, do as well as he possibly can and then suddenly lots of opportunities will no doubt open up for him.
Where should Jose Mourinho strengthen?
“He won’t be that expensive come the end of the season, simply because he’ll be at that stage where there won’t be many players around, he’s got a year left on his contract and he’s desperate to leave.”
Mills is right – if the opportunity did arise for Rose to sign for PSG, he would surely jump at the chance to make the move. At 29, he is starting to approach the end of his career and his stock is currently on the decline, as highlighted by the fact that he was unable to get games under Jose Mourinho at Spurs (Transfermarkt).
Moving to Paris would enable him to keep playing Champions League football. They would be able to offer a very nice financial package and it would give him the opportunity to win some silverware, with PSG having been the dominant side in France in recent years.
However, as Mills has said, he will need to impress whilst on Tyneside if he is to be offered the chance to move across the English Channel.
