Former England international right-back Danny Mills has been raving about the performance of Son Heung-min in Tottenham Hotspur’s latest victory.
Spurs beat Southampton 3-2 in an FA Cup fourth-round replay, as goals galore made visitors to all-bonus-codes.co.uk very happy, with the South Korean playing a key role in the match by scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 87th minute after he was brought down by Angus Gunn (BBC Sport).
The 27-year-old’s performance certainly caught the eye of Mills, who has been waxing lyrical about him in the aftermath of the fixture. He praised the player’s attitude whilst also suggesting that he was Spurs’ best player on the night. Speaking about Son’s performance, Mills told Football Insider: “It’s his attitude and his work rate, first and foremost – he’s tireless in everything that he does. He’s ultra-professional, always gives his all, got great quality.
“His penalty was exceptional and he was the brightest player for Tottenham throughout, he was offering to run in behind and try create things. He won Man of the Match and rightly so.”
Mills is certainly right here, Son produced an excellent display against Southampton and in the end, it was he who got the winning goal. But it wasn’t just his strike from the penalty spot which made it a great performance. Indeed, he played three key passes in the game, completed one successful dribble, played two accurate crosses and one accurate long ball whilst also winning five ground duels, one tackle and making one clearance (SofaScore).
That shows just how involved he was and highlights how important a player he is to Tottenham right now as not only does he contribute going forward, but he is also willing to do some defensive work too.
With Harry Kane currently out with a hamstring injury and not expected to be back until May (The Guardian), a lot of the onus to score goals will be on Son between now and the end of the campaign.
And in fairness, he has certainly picked up the mantle of late and not only did he score against Southampton, but he has actually netted in each of his last four appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Everyone associated with the club will be hoping that he can continue to play at such a high level in the coming months as they prepare to battle on three fronts in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
