Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes that Danny Rose should leave the club ‘as soon as possible’ if Newcastle United are interested in his services, as reported by The Telegraph.
Rose has become a peripheral figure at Spurs since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, with the left-back playing just three times in the league under the Portuguese manager.
He said: “For Danny Rose, he’s been in London a long time, it looks like him and Mourinho have been butting heads, so for me it does make sense – go up there, play football, he can go up there and make himself a hero. I think it makes perfect sense. For me, it’s a no-brainer. If Newcastle are interested, I’d try get the deal done as soon as possible.”
Should Lo Celso replace Christian Eriksen ASAP?
It is easy to see why this makes sense for Bent. Rose has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks and months – certainly if that is compared to the minutes he was given last year by Mauricio Pochettino. Meanwhile, Steve Bruce is experiencing something of a full-back crisis at Newcastle, with Jetro Willems set to remain a casualty for the rest of the campaign along with left-back alternative Paul Dummett.
While it seems plausible that Newcastle would be interested in Rose, the benefits for the 29-year-old appear obvious. You would imagine that, given their current injury concerns, Rose would enter the Magpies side as an instant starter with both out-and-out left-backs unavailable for the foreseeable future.
That would solve concerns about his game time, particularly if he holds aspirations of nailing down a place in the England team at the European Championships this summer. Therefore, whether or not there has been a breakdown in relations between him and his manager, it would not be a surprise if Rose was thinking along the same lines as former Spur Bent.
