Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes that signing Moussa Dembele would be a great piece of business by the club this month.
The 23-year-old striker currently plies his trade in France with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, but the Daily Star recently reported that Spurs have made an approach for the frontman.
Jose Mourinho is currently on the lookout for a new striker following the news that Harry Kane is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines after he had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring (tottenhamhotspur.com). They have been linked with quite a few names, but Bent thinks that bringing in Dembele could be a smart move.
When discussing whether Dembele would be a good addition for Spurs, Bent told Football Insider: “He was fantastic at Celtic, I was with him at Fulham when he was a young kid, he was good there, he scored a lot of goals for them and he scored a lot of goals for Celtic.
“And he’s one you’d definitely would have to say, he would be a great signing.”
It has to be said that Bent is right here and that Dembele would surely be a brilliant buy if Spurs could get him. Indeed when you look at his record in front of goal in recent seasons, it certainly makes for impressive reading.
In his final season at Fulham, he scored 15 times in the Championship (Transfermarkt) before going on to Celtic where he was prolific, netting 51 times in just 94 appearances for the Scottish giants (Transfermarkt).
So his goals record is certainly impressive and given the fact that he is still only 23-years-old there is plenty of scope for him to get even better in the coming seasons as he approaches his peak. Therefore, not only is he a striker who could come in now and replace the injured Kane straightaway, he is also one who would likely improve during his time at the club.
