Tottenham Hotspur secured an impressive 2-0 home victory against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday (via BBC Sport).
Goals from Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-min were enough to seal all three points for Jose Mourinho’s side, although it would be fair to say that they had another person to thank for the victory too – goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Indeed, Spurs were under immense pressure in the game, particularly for the first hour. Pep Guardiola’s men were dominant during the opening 60 minutes, taking 14 shots to Tottenham’s zero, taking three corners to Spurs’ one and enjoying 70.4% possession in that time (WhoScored).
One of the chances that City didn’t take was a penalty from Ilkay Gundogan, which was saved comfortably by Lloris. In total, the French shot-stopper made five saves, including three from inside the box. He also won one high claim, made three clearances and finished with a match rating of 8.5 from SofaScore.
The World Cup winner has recently missed 15 Premier League fixtures after injuring his elbow against Brighton in October, but he has made an impact upon his return with the team winning both league outings since (Transfermarkt).
Would Tottenham be in the top four if they had signed Dybala?
Plenty of Spurs fans were absolutely delighted with his display against Manchester City, with several taking to Twitter to heap praise on the Frenchman. Here is what some had to say…

I’ve been a massive critic of Loris – and rightly so. Today – he was brilliant in every department! 👍👍👍 #TOTMCI

Just researching, how much have we missed Lloris? I personally think Gazzaniga has been solid enough but there’s a difference between good and top level. Lloris is the latter (albeit he can’t pass a ball)

Hugo Lloris was absolutely superb it has to be said 👏
