Tottenham Hotspur have identified Islam Slimani as a potential transfer target this month, that is according to a report from the Telegraph. Indeed, the striker is currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Monaco, where he has actually been doing quite well. In fact, he has already contributed with seven goals and seven assists in just 13 appearances in the league so far (Transfermarkt).
But he doesn’t belong to Monaco, he is actually on loan there from Leicester City and it may be that Spurs try and do a deal with the Foxes to cut the 31-year-old’s loan short in order to allow him to move to north London. They are not the only ones interested either, as the Telegraph report that Aston Villa are also keen.
Tottenham are in the market for a striker this month with Harry Kane out until at least April as he recovers from a rupture to the left hamstring (tottenhamhotspur.com).
However, it seems that several Spurs fans are desperate for their club to avoid signing the Algerian international. That is perhaps due to his below-par record in the Premier League, indeed he has just eight times in 39 appearances in the division whilst playing for both Leicester City and Newcastle United (Transfermarkt).
Loads of Tottenham supporters have taken to Twitter to urge the club not to sign Slimani, here is what some had to say…

NO NO NO …. transfers like this would show next to no ambition. Player couldn’t do it for Leicester yet becomes someone we place all our Hope’s on. Need to look at better players then this. #Jovic

It gets worse. If we go for him and I don’t think this is a legit rumour but if it is then it is on a level with Rasiak and Booth.
I’ll personally throw Levy from his seat at the new stadium. Championship player at very best.
What is going on?
