Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has shared his thoughts on playing at White Hart Lane. Naturally, many Spurs fans have been discussing his tweet.
As Thursday marked three years since Spurs left the famous ground, Van der Vaart tweeted his fondness of the old stadium, saying “GOAL – Van Der Vaart ASSIST – Probably @petercrouch. So many special memories of playing in this amazing stadium in front of the Spurs fans!”
The Dutchman uploaded a montage of some of his most memorable goals at the club’s old home.
After arriving in North London from La Liga giants Real Madrid for £9.45m in 2010, the midfielder went on to score 28 goals and produce 18 assists in 77 appearances for the Lilywhites, before returning to Hamburger SV in 2012.
Having started his career at the Johan Cruyff Arena, the Ajax academy graduate scored 63 goals in 156 games for the Sons of the Gods, winning the Eredivisie twice, and picking up the Superligaen trophy with FC Midtjylland. He finally hung up his boots in 2018 following a brief spell with Esbjerg fB (Transfermarkt).
Predictably, plenty of Spurs supporters drooled over the 37-year-old’s tweet, with one fan calling him “superb,” and another adding he was “unbelievable.”
