Tottenham Hotspur: Fans impressed with Gedson Fernandes cameo against Southampton - Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to secure a place in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, beating Southampton 3-2 at home.

Jack Stephens’ own goal had put Spurs ahead before goals from Shane Long and Danny Ings turned the game on its head. But Jose Mourinho’s side responded and both Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min found the back of the net to send the north London team through.

One player who many fans were impressed with on the night was new signing Gedson Fernandes. The 21-year-old joined the club on an 18-month loan from Benfica in January (BBC Sport) and came off the bench in the game against the Saints.

Despite only being on the pitch for 35 minutes, the Portuguese still tried to make a direct impact on the match and attempted five dribbles, two long balls and one cross whilst also playing one key pass and winning one interception (SofaScore).

Added to that, he also produced a sublime piece of skill to flick the ball over the head of a Southampton player before eventually drawing a foul (@LastWordOnSpurs), which will certainly have impressed everyone watching.

His cameo seems to have caught the eye of several Spurs fans, many of whom have been raving about his display on Twitter. Indeed one even suggested that on the night he looked “better than Ndombele“. Here is what some had to say…
