Tottenham Hotspur no longer view signing a new right-back as a priority in the January transfer window, that is according to a report from The Athletic, via @DailyHotspur.
Do Tottenham need a new right-back?
Whilst the remain keen on strengthening the position it is not a pressing issue and it is thought that they see Norwich City star Max Aarons as a long-term target.
It would be fair to say that right-back hasn’t exactly been a strong position for Spurs this season. Having sold Kieran Tripper in the summer they were left with Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters as their options but neither has really performed well.
Aurier has been the first choice but over the course of the campaign his defensive ability has been questionable, indeed he loses possession on average 16.3 times per game whilst he has also won just 53.8% of his aerial duels (SofaScore).
As for Walker-Peters, he has failed to make a single league appearance since August (Transfermarkt) and has been out of favour under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.
The news hasn’t gone down well at all with the fans, many of whom can’t believe that the club aren’t prioritising bringing in a player in that position.
Here is what some had to say on Twitter…
What??? 😭. I can’t watch aurier for another 6 months. Please don’t do this to me.

So lets do the math here. We are loaning out KWP. Nobody thinks Foyth and Aurier are good enough, but we don’t need a RB.
This club is dead.

If true then new eyes for everybody at Tottenham for the new year

I’m all for reporting majority of stories as you do but ones like these, let’s maybe skip over please? Aurier at right-back has caused me health problems.
