Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he doesn’t envisage the club making any more signings before the transfer deadline (via @AlasdairGold).
Many thought that Spurs would have signed a new striker to cover the injury of Harry Kane, who has been ruled out until at least April having had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring (tottenhamhotspur.com).
But whilst Mourinho has admitted that his squad “would be better” with another striker, he doesn’t believe that any more new faces will be coming through the door. Spurs have reinforced their squad this month, signing Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven and adding Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica (Transfermarkt), whilst also turning Giovani Lo Celso’s loan move permanent (BBC Sport).
So with no new striker coming in they will either have to give youngster Troy Parrott a chance, or play one of Bergwijn, Son Heung-min or Lucas Moura through the middle.
It is fair to say that most Spurs fans are absolutely fuming that they will not be bringing in a new striker before the deadline. Indeed, many have taken to Twitter to express their anger, with some taking aim at owner Daniel Levy and suggesting that he has let Mourinho down. Here is what some had to say…
Honestly don’t see how anyone can defend levy, every single manager let down again and again!!

We must spend a fortune on our scouting department, you’re telling me that there isn’t a young talented striker in any team across Europe that would bring something to the club? It’s farcical

Honestly thought this window would be the best in the last 4 or 5 years, no striker changes that and once again our penny pinching will cost us. When is enough enough?

Daniel Levy is literally throwing in the towel and conceding that there will be no CL next year.

Levy is a dumpster fire of a manager. Always undervaluing players, and waits too late into the transfer window to try to do anything. Seems like he has to be forced to even negotiate sometimes.

No striker and player our attacking threats out of position. Great.
