Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to Alasdair Gold’s verdict on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

A move for Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg makes complete sense for Tottenham Hotspur, according to Alasdair Gold.
Earlier this year, Sky Sports revealed Hojbjerg is at the top of Jose Mourinho’s list of transfer targets, and he recently stated his dream is to win the Premier League and win the Champions League.
Writing for football.london, the journalist noted “For Tottenham, the Dane fits the bill on numerous fronts. Despite being only 24, he’s got four years of Premier League experience under his belt.”
“Hojbjerg can also play in that defensive midfield role Spurs need bodies in, he’s got leadership capabilities – something else Tottenham have lacked – and of course will come without a crazy price tag.”
He added “the Saints midfielder made 66 tackles in his 28 Premier League appearances this season, more than any of his Spurs counterparts with Serge Aurier (74) the only player at the north London club to have matched or surpassed that figure in the competition. The next Tottenham man is Davinson Sanchez with 41.”
Having arrived at St Mary’s Stadium from Bayern Munich for £13.7m in 2016, the 24-year-old has played in 28 games for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side this season, producing 1 assist, making 2.4 tackles per game, averaging 1.5 interceptions, and completing 1.7 clearances in the English top flight (WhoScored).
Which player should make way for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the Tottenham Hotspur lineup?
Harry Winks

Tanguy Ndombele

Eric Dier

Hojbjerg only has one year left on his current contract with the Saints and the South Coast club are aware his £10.8m valuation will continue to plummet due to the ongoing pandemic.
Naturally, many Spurs fans reacted to Gold’s verdict on the “all-rounder,” with one fan dubbing the football writer’s view as “great,” and another adding “Tanguy is toast” in reference to the club’s record signing.
Take a look at some of the mixed reactions down below…
I’d be happy with this, looks more mobile than Dier, hopefully brings out the best in N’Dombele and Lo Celso in a 433

Fans who look down at this sort of signing need a reality check. We are not going to sign big name players for big money, this for me would be a good signing at a time when anything will be a bonus.

He’s good. I’m a fan. Good all-rounder.

It would be a great signing that would fit a need, which means there is basically zero chance Levy goes for it.
Likely brings in another winger, with much less talent but that Levy feels he “got a deal on” instead.

I agree. Good value. Experience of the league. Leader. Young. Potential sell on value. Would be an underwhelming transfer for many but would be like, Palacios, a real steal and quality signing. Ideal imo.

Should Jose want him then I reckon Tanguy is toast. He would be a good addition because we desperately need a decent DM.
