Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to Gerson transfer link

Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay €30 million (£25.7 million) if they wish to sign midfielder Gerson from Flamengo this month, that is according to a report from O Globo.
It is thought that Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is interested in the 22-year-old as he looks to bolster his squad in the transfer window. Indeed one of their midfield mainstays, Moussa Sissoko, is now out until April at the earliest (tottenhamhotspur.com) and so it could be that they look to replace him.
Gerson only joined Flamengo from Roma last summer, when he became the most expensive Brazilian player ever signed by a Brazilian club as he cost them €11.8 million.
He has enjoyed instant success since returning to his homeland, helping the team win the league title and Copa Libertadores by making 34 appearances across both competitions (Transfermarkt). According to the report however, it is unlikely that Flamengo will look to sell the midfielder unless his release clause of €70 million is met.
It seems that he wouldn’t be a popular signing amongst the Spurs fanbase anyway, with many taking to social media to suggest that Gerson wouldn’t be a good enough signing for the club whilst one suggesting he is just another Fred, who hasn’t really made an impact at Manchester United. Here is what some had to say about potentially bringing him in on Twitter…
no thanks

30M is too much. A loan and a 1M fee for a League One player is better for the club

Why can’t we just sign Jack Grealish.. a hardworker and he’s only 24 years of age
