Tottenham Hotspur are prioritising a move for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani ahead of the transfer deadline, that is according to a report from France Football via @DailyHotspur.
The Algerian striker is currently out on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, where he has scored seven goals in just 13 league appearances (Transfermarkt).
Spurs are currently searching for a new striker with Harry Kane having been ruled out until at least April having had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring (tottenhamhotspur.com). The likes of Olivier Giroud (Sky Sports) and Edinson Cavani (El Pais) had been linked with a move to north London, but according to this report, all of their focus will be on getting Slimani in.
Leicester would need to recall the 31-year-old from his loan at Monaco in order to then let him go to Spurs. Meanwhile, the player himself is thought to be keen having asked to have his loan in France cut short (Sky Sports).
However, it seems that most Spurs fans do not want to see Slimani join, with many taking to Twitter to urge the club not to sign the Algeria international. That is probably due to the fact that he has a poor goal scoring record in the Premier League, netting just eight goals in 39 appearances in the competition for Leicester and Newcastle (Transfermarkt).
Here is what some had to say after reading that Slimani was now a top target…
