Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has identified Paris Saint Germain defender Thomas Meunier as one of his primary targets ahead of the summer transfer window, that is according to a report from 90min.com.
The 40-time Belgium international’s contract in the French capital is set to expire at the end of the current season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer. It is suggested that Mourinho is on the hunt for a new first choice right-back as he remains unconvinced by Serge Aurier and he is unsure of Kyle Walker-Peters’ future at the club.
The article also states that the Portuguese hopes that Meunier’s close friendship with compatriot and current Spurs player Toby Alderweireld will help seal the deal.
He has been at PSG since 2016 and has made 128 appearances for them in all competitions so far. In that time he has chipped in with 13 goals and 21 assists, impressive numbers for a player who is primarily a defender (Transfermarkt).
However, despite this it seems that several Tottenham fans aren’t too keen on signing the 28-year-old. Indeed, one even suggested that it showed that the club were ‘declining back to the Ramos days‘.
Here is what some had to say…
So average, I’d pass on him personally

Nope, not good enough and at 28, in 2/3yrs time max, we would have to replace him and start again

Personally shows how every rumour is either a player has run down their contract or is a free agent shows how we ain’t looking to spend big this summer. This is the first picture of us as a team declining back to the Ramos days
