Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has ruled out the possibility of Gareth Bale joining Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day (via @TomAllnuttAFP).
It had been reported by the Times on Friday that Spurs had made a breakthrough in their attempts to sign the Welsh international, but that suggestion has now been shot down by the Frenchman. Speaking at his latest press conference about Bale potentially leaving, Zidane said: “Gareth is here with us and I am counting on him. I am not contemplating this possibility,” (@TomAllnutAFP).
The 30-year-old was close to a move to the Chinese Super League in the summer, but Real Madrid pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute which meant he had to remain in the Spanish capital (BBC Sport). Since then, he has endured something of a frustrating season, featuring just 15 times in all competitions due to a number of different injury problems and illnesses (Transfermarkt).
Plenty of Spurs fans have been reacting to Zidane’s comments on social media, with many accepting that there is no way they will be signing the player who has scored 166 club goals in his career (Transfermarkt). Here is what some had to say…
