Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for AFC Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake this month, that is according to a report from The Telegraph.
Would Nathan Ake improve Tottenham's defence?
It is thought that Jose Mourinho’s side are interested in bringing in a centre-back in the January transfer window and that they do like the Dutch international.
The 24-year-old is a left-footed centre-back and could, therefore, be seen as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, with the Belgian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).
Looking at the stats for this season, then you would have to say that Ake would be a great replacement. Indeed he is outperforming Vertonghen in many areas, he averages 4.4 clearances per game, has won 78.9% of his ground duels and only loses possession on average 5.9 times a match (SofaScore).
Compare that to the 32-year-old’s numbers and he averages just 2.7 clearances per game, has won 70.3% of his ground duels and, perhaps most crucially, loses possession far more regularly, 12.6 times per match to be precise (SofaScore).
It seems that plenty of Spurs fans would love their club to sign the Netherlands international, here is how some reacted to the transfer link on Twitter…
Please make it happen
