Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have reflected on the north London club not signing Pau Lopez when he was loaned in by Mauricio Pochettino but did not play a game (via The Spurs Web).
The former Espanyol goalkeeper has also received plaudits from Real Betis in Spain, so much so that he is now the number one between the sticks for AS Roma.
He has made 34 appearances in all competitions and has kept an impressive nine clean sheets, showing Spurs what they are now potentially missing out on. Indeed, he is currently valued at £21.6 million according to Transfermarkt, suggesting he’s seriously developed in the last few seasons.
On the other hand, Hugo Lloris has kept just two clean sheets in 18 games, highlighting his inferior ratio to Lopez (via Transfermarkt). The Frenchman has come under criticism at times this season and is now 33 years of age, meaning having a back-up to act as a potential heir of Lopez’s quality may well have been a good idea.
These Spurs fans reflected on not signing Lopez permanently, blaming ‘Poch’ for not securing his services:
Blame Poch not Levy he picks team .

Well Poch didn’t play him, so you can’t just blame Levy.

I remember when he first joined us I tweeted he would make it into the Spanish setup.
We fumbled this one completely. 😔

Screwed the pooch on Pau, really bright future and already a very solid first choice keeper

Tried to sign. He didn’t want to come cause he didn’t get a minute of football

Poch preferred Paulo Gazzaniga
