Tottenham Hotspur: Plenty of fans slam “shambolic” defence they say Mourinho must fix

Tottenham’s 3-2 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday has damaged the fans’ belief in their defence once more. They went 3-0 up and then conceded two, just as they did the week before against West Ham. In the Champions League, they conceded two against Olympiacos before bringing it back to 4-2 as well.
Without Jan Vertonghen’s last-minute block it would have been likely they’d have conceded again and left without the three points. Only one player in front of the back four was given a lower WhoScored match rating than those in the defence, and even that was holding midfield Eric Dier, 6.8/10, whose job is to protect that back four.
Spurs fans noticed just how worrying they’re looking at the back, and they took to Twitter to express their concerns. They made it very clear it’s an issue that Jose Mourinho needs to sort out now before they start to drop points.
You can see some of the reaction on Twitter below:
Defensively we are a mess. Should have been two comfortable league wins but ended up being nervous!!

Our defence makes me want to pull my hair out. Two league games in a row we’ve given away two goals after scoring three. So much to work on at the back – thankfully the boys up front are doing the business. Buzzing for Sissoko. Three wins out of three under Mourinho. #COYS

Defending is also about mentality and grit. Atm were too complacent and start missing chances, not running back and giving the opposition stupid chances.

The defending of the team will improve as confidence grows, but at the moment we are useless at the back! #THFC

Spurs fans, what do you think Jose Mourinho needs to do to fix the leaky defence?
