Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting news that Eric Dier is likely to receive a ban from the FA following the incident that happened after the game against Norwich City at home in the FA Cup round-of-sixteen.
Dier raced into the crowd after Spurs lost on penalties to confront a fan who he thought was giving his brother a hard time. Talking THFC’s Twitter account relaid news from The Athletic in a post that the midfielder is ‘unlikely’ to receive ‘a strong punishment’ as the player ‘didn’t hit anyone’.
It is unknown yet how long the potential ban could be but if it is a lengthy ban the England international could miss a large chunk of the rest of the season. Spurs have just nine Premier League games left to play, but will still have hopes of finishing in the top four.
Dier has made 24 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season, but has yet to score and has only provided two assists (via Transfermarkt). The 26-year old has not been very influential in terms of his goal contributions and so perhaps a ban may not be the worst thing for the north London side if he did miss a few games.
The Spurs fanbase is split on whether Dier should receive a ban or not and these Spurs fans voiced their opinion on Twitter, with one fan branding the FA ‘a joke’ whilst another fan slammed Dier’s actions ‘utterly ridiculous’:
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is likely to be handed a ban by the FA this week for 'bringing the game into disrepute' on Wednesday, though the fact he didn’t hit anyone means a strong punishment is unlikely. [The Athletic] #THFC pic.twitter.com/apGVJxBQky

If Eric has brought the game into disrepute then what has the fan responsible for the foul mouth abuse done for the game. He should get a very long ban. I for one get sick of foul language at games, it’s not clever it’s just disgusting behaviour. Constant foul language eject them

I like Dier and don’t necessarily blame him for his actions. But yeah, it’s a clear case of bringing the game into disrepute and it seems reasonable. Hopefully, the sanction won’t be too severe as he appears to have some decent mitigating circumstances.

He deserves it. Going into the stands. Utterly ridiculous.
