Tottenham Hotspur: Fans want Clint Dempsey back

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans want Clint Dempsey back - Tottenham

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have jokingly called for retired player Clint Dempsey to return to the club this season to help them score more goals as they fight for a Champions League place.

Spurs are currently missing top goalscorers Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son through injury and Jose Mourinho opted to play Dele Alli in a false-nine position again against Burnley on Saturday evening, leaving young striker Troy Parrott out of the squad altogether. Although Alli scored his 50th Premier League goal from the spot, the north London club did not get many other good chances to score as they were restricted to just two shots on target all game (full match report via BBC). They ended up drawing 1-1 and need to find ways to turn draws into wins as they hunt down the sides above them in the table.

Finding a reliable source for goals would help with this, and Spurs fans have hilariously turned to retired footballer Dempsey. The ex-American international scored 12 goals in 43 games for Tottenham in all competitions and scored 50 goals for Fulham in the Premier League, the same milestone Alli reached (stats via Transfermarkt). Based on his goal-scoring record it is safe to say that Dempsey had an eye for a goal in the top flight. And these fans have called for Dempsey to come out of retirement and help the club score more goals for the remainder of the season:
