Schalke 04 have officially announced that goalkeeper Alexander Nubel will leave the club in the summer when his contract expires (schalke04.de).
The 23-year-old is the Bundesliga outfit’s first-choice goalkeeper and has started 15 of their 17 matches this season, captaining the team in each of his appearances (Transfermarkt).
In a statement on their official website, Schalke admitted that they respect his decision and insisted that they are confident that he will continue to give his best until the summer.
According to Bild, it is Bayern Munich who look set to land the shot-stopper, who they see as the long-term successor to Manuel Neuer.
However, Nubel is also a reported transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur (talkSPORT), so they could well try and tempt the German to north London on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
It seems that it would be a popular signing amongst the Spurs faithful if they did pull it off, here is what some had to say on Twitter about potentially bringing him in…
Definitely go for him
