Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to Calciomercato.
Mauricio Pochettino could lose both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in the summer, when both of their contracts come to an end, as per Transfermarkt, meaning the club will likely be looking to bring in at least one replacement.
According to the report, Arsenal are looking to challenge their rivals for the 22-year-old, hoping to take him to the Emirates.
Gomez has been used sporadically by Liverpool this season, making just two starts and three substitute appearances across the Premier League and Champions League, as per WhoScored.
He has still shown that he can be an effective defender though, averaging 3.5 tackles, 2.5 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game.
There may have been the argument that with Joel Matip injured he would get more game time, but that didn’t prove to be the case against Spurs, as he only came on for the last five minutes.
If Spurs can get this move through then they certainly should, as it is in keeping with their policy of adding young English talent to the senior squad. In addition to that, this is a player who has represented England seven times and made five starts in the Champions League winning campaign last term.
However, it is unknown whether Liverpool will allow this move to happen, as Jurgen Klopp will have seen the impact he can have for the club first-hand.
