Harry Kane could look to leave Tottenham this summer after running out of patience at the club, according to the Times.
The 26-year-old is said to have been furious after Spurs’ 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday and he could call time on his career in North London if big European sides reignite their interest in him.
Kane and Hugo Lloris led a dressing room inquest into the Champions League thumping, according to the Times, and their report says he’s frustrated at Spurs’ stuttering start to the season.
It says he spelled out the need for improvement from his teammates, some of whom could also be on their way out of the club in the summer.
The desire Christian Eriksen has to leave has been well-documented, and the report cites Kane’s desire to win trophies as a reason he might follow suit in a quest to leave.
The club fear the striker could hand in a transfer request this summer, but his contract runs out in 2024, so they will hold all the cards over a potential exit.
Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eriksen are all in the last year of their contracts, so the next year or so will demand a rebuild, whether that’s with or without Mauricio Pochettino.
Kane must decide if he wants to be part of that new era or give up on Spurs and request a move. Surely, considering his standing in the game, the England captain would not be short of top-level suitors.
Kane’s approaching the peak of his career, and, for the quality he has, he should be challenging for domestic titles and the Champions League every season.
Although Spurs reached the Champions League final last season, they’re already 10 points off Liverpool in the Premier League and out of the Carabao Cup.
Sadly for Tottenham, it’s not hard to see why he might want to leave.
