Kieran Trippier has been charged by the FA for allegedly breaching betting rules, via Sky Sports.
The charges are reportedly related to the former Tottenham Hotspur star’s move from to Atletico Madrid last year.
According to the national outlet, Trippier has insisted he hasn’t done anything wrong, saying he has never earned money from betting on football, or encouraged others to do so with inside information.
After arriving at White Hart Lane from Burnley in July 2015 for a mere £4.41m, the 29-year-old went on to make 114 appearances in the famous Lilywhites jersey, scoring 2 goals and creating 24 assists.
He moved to the Wando Metropolitano for £21.7m, bringing his four-year-spell at the North London club to an end.
The right-back has played in 19 games in La Liga for Diego Simeone’s Red and Whites, picking up 3 assists, making 2.2 tackles per game, averaging 1.1 interceptions, and completed 1.6 clearances on average via WhoScored.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of supporters reacted to the breaking news on social media, with one fan dubbing the Englishman a “fool,” and another adding he is a “silly lad.”
